Disabled dog abandoned with a bag of diapers and a note
She lay on the cold sidewalk in Salta, Argentina, her frail body strapped to a broken wheelchair, her eyes quietly pleading for help. Beside her was a small note that had her name, her age, and a short explanation. There was no food, no water, and no reason except that her owner could no longer keep her. Her name was Lunita.
Lunita had been left behind by the very people she trusted most. Her hind legs were paralyzed, and her little body was covered in dust. But despite everything, there was still a spark of hope in her eyes, the kind that only a dog who still believes in love could hold.
That hope saved her.
A kind worker at a local dog-grooming shop noticed her and immediately called the rescue organization LUBA Salta. Volunteers arrived soon after, gently lifting her from the ground and promising she would never be alone again.
For a while, Lunita lived in a foster home, waiting for someone to give her a real chance. Weeks passed. Then months. And just when it seemed like hope was fading, a family from the United States reached out, ready to adopt her.
A fundraiser helped bring her to her new home, but life was not kind to Lunita just yet. Her adoptive family did not know how to care for a disabled dog. Neglect led to a severe staph infection, scabies, and painful sores that left her nearly hairless and struggling to survive once again.
Yet Lunita’s story did not end there.
Another family stepped in, one that understood love, patience, and care. They refused to give up on her. With time, medical care, and devotion, Lunita healed. Her coat grew back, her pain faded, and her spirit began to shine again.
She traveled, played in the snow for the first time, made new friends, and even celebrated birthdays with her loving family. On June 15, 2018, Lunita turned eleven years old. Surrounded by people and dogs who adored her, she wore a little birthday hat and wagged her tail with joy. Her cake was special, made just for her.
Not long after, Lunita’s health began to decline. Her breathing grew weaker, and each moment became harder than the last. Her family held her close, showering her with love as they said goodbye.
Lunita passed peacefully, surrounded by the people who had given her the life she always deserved.
“I will never forget her and how much she meant to me,” her adoptive mother wrote. “She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”
Lunita’s journey began with heartbreak, but it ended in love. She is a symbol of resilience and proof that even the most broken souls can find joy again when shown compassion.
May her story remind us all that every life, no matter how fragile, is worth saving.
Rest in peace, Lunita. You were loved. ❤️
